Stetson University invites applicants for a full-time Brown Teacher-Scholar Fellowship in Developmental Writing. We seek a Fellow who will collaborate with existing faculty leaders to encourage the development of student writers. While strategies for writing at Stetson currently feature proven approaches including robust peer tutoring, Writing Fellow, and faculty development programs, we are seeking candidates versed in new and innovative forms of writing pedagogy and strategies for student support that will help us better serve our diverse student populations. The Fellow in Developmental Writing will be housed primarily in the Writing Center for administrative and development work; teaching assignments will be in the Department of English.

The position involves both teaching and administrative work. A 2/2 teaching load will include Developmental Writing and may, at the Department’s discretion, include Peer Tutoring in Writing and other courses in the Fellow’s specialty.

Administrative work will include developing and implementing faculty training, working with Writing Program Directors and English faculty to create a sustainable Stetson-specific developmental writing curriculum (including examining non-curricular models), and supporting the Writing Center in leading tutor and writing fellow education around working with developmental writers and other training based on the candidate’s specialties.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Composition/Rhetoric, Writing Studies, or Writing Center Studies (or related field). Candidates who are ABD are invited to apply.  Applicants should have an active scholarly record and experience working with developing student writers, program directors, and faculty from across disciplines. Desirable additional qualifications include TESOL, experience in Writing Fellow programs, and extensive experience working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities:

In keeping with the teacher-scholar model central to the mission of our liberal learning, this position involves teaching, research, and administration. The Fellow will teach up to four courses in the academic year, for a teaching load of 2/2, including courses in Developmental Writing and at the discretion of the English Department, Peer Tutoring in Writing, and courses in the Fellow’s specialty.

Fellows are expected to participate in professional development programs through the Brown Center during their residency.
