The Isaac Bear Early College Coordinator organizes activities for Isaac Bear Early College (e.g. classroom, general student meeting space, recreational field reservations, etc) assists with development of orientation events to transition students, assists with parent and student sessions, works with the Principal of the Isaac Bear Early College High School and appropriate UNCW offices to help with addressing various needs and issues as they may arise. This position establishes committees as necessary to address early college issues and make recommendations to appropriate offices. The position reports to the Watson College of Education Associate Dean of Teacher Education and Outreach.

•School calendar and daily schedule, including interface with NHCS operations related to calendar (School admin — pushed to HR/UNCW);
•Coordinate facility and grounds use at UNCW and IBEC;
•Student recruitment and enrollment, including marketing and messaging, community outreach and publicity, retention of current students, recruiting new students;
•Assist with development of orientation events;
•Assist with parent and student sessions, workshops, and meetings;
•Work with the IBEC administration and appropriate UNCW offices to help with addressing various needs and issues as they arise;
•Serving as a coordinator and liaison in regards to communication with UNCW, community and local agency stakeholders, and school communities. (e.g. conducting school tours, communicating the mission and vision of the school to campus and community units/agencies).
•Interface between UNCW and IBEC, with NHCS, community stakeholders, and with the UNC SO, DPI
•Coordinating community volunteer efforts and university engagement at the school, communicating with the school-based office and UNCW offices and leadership about volunteer and engagement opportunities.
•Operational support other operational duties as warranted
•Coordinate with key contacts and offices at UNCW as needed, at direction of Principal
•Other duties as assigned by the Principal and Associate Dean

Minimum Requirements

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in an area relevant to the role plus at least three years’ experience in liaison or high school affiliated experience at an institution of higher education or professional school.

•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Demonstrated ability of working with at risk student populations
•Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
•Demonstrated ability to utilize digital solutions
•Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and personnel, and to interact effectively with parents of IBEC students
•Attention to detail required; experience with diverse learners, instructional technology, and organizational structures

Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experience

Additional preferred qualifications include skills or experience in: communication (both written and verbal); program organization; relationship-building; teamwork/collaboration; negotiation and program advocacy; advising/mentoring; curriculum planning; problem-solving; and analytical and strategic planning.

Primary purpose of the division, department, and/or grant

Responsibilities include: to seek, facilitate and support opportunities to align the talent and resources of UNCW and Isaac Bear Early College High School/New Hanover County Schools to promote the missions of both entities; foster and maintain positive relationships between the faculty, staff, and students of the University of North Carolina Wilmington and the faculty, staff, and students of the early college; to facilitate a successful transition for early college students from high school classes to university courses, enabling them to graduate from the program with a high school diploma and up to two years of transferable college credit; and to identify ways for the early college to collaborate with existing programs at the university.

College/School Information

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a rapidly
growing college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members working in
undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood,
Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of
Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and
master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational
Leadership. It offers several international study programs, a newly
developed laboratory school, and maintains partnerships with numerous
school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
