Job Details
The Education Abroad Advisor position serves as the primary advisor for students interested in studying in Latin America, Spain, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as for students participating in international internship, service-learning or applied research experiences abroad. Additionally, the Education Abroad Advisor will support the functionality of the Terra Dotta data management system by engaging in routine maintenance activities, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements and new features. This position will also assist with general promotion and outreach related to education abroad opportunities, including education abroad events and programming.
Minimum Requirements• Master’s degree or its academic equivalent
• Experience living, working, or studying abroad
• Two years’ professional experience working in education abroad for higher education
• Experience advising higher education students on education abroad offerings
• Experience with managing Terra Dotta online database including troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and new feature implementation
• Excellent command of the English language, written and oral, and effective interpersonal communication skills, including sensitivity and diplomacy in dealing with people from numerous countries and cultures
• Detail-oriented and able to work independently without direct supervision
• Ability to work effectively with faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, administrators, staff, and off-campus community members (i.e. parents)
• Ability and willingness to periodically travel domestically and internationally
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Experience thriving in a fast-paced work environment
• Ability and willingness to work occasional nights and weekends
• Experience advising higher education students on education abroad offerings in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, or Spain.

• A record of active participation in appropriate organizations (such as NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, EAIE, and their state and regional affiliates).
•Proficiency in a foreign language related to the advising regions for this position (i.e. Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, etc.)
The Office of International Programs is dedicated to developing and increasing the international dimension of the UNCW campus. This is accomplished by fostering programs and services for international students; helping UNCW students to participate in education abroad programs; assisting UNCW faculty in their teaching, research, and scholarship abroad; developing and strengthening educational linkages with international partners so as to create opportunities for student, faculty, and staff exchanges; identifying and obtaining resources to further the internationalization of UNCW, and by enhancing and expanding international and global opportunities and resources on campus and in the surrounding community.
