Job Details

The Executive Director of the Kerry Murphy Healey Center for Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship (“the Healey Center”) is responsible for working with the Healey Center's Council of Strategic Advisors, the leadership of Babson College and the Kletjian Foundation, Babson faculty and, potentially, non-Babson faculty who affiliate with the Center, and other stakeholders to coordinate all activities of the Healey Center; providing campus leadership for initiatives driving innovation in global health and healthcare systems; developing and implementing programs supporting the education and professional development of personnel involved in innovation in global healthcare systems; serving as a global ambassador for the Healey Center; and representing the Center externally. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction and leadership towards the achievement of the Healey Center's mission and goals, while anticipating opportunities, problems and issues, and initiating appropriate action without supervision. Directs the administrative staff; manages the budget; develops marketing and communication strategies; and identifies, evaluates, and creates new programs and initiatives that will enable innovation in global health and healthcare systems.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Healey Center, creating and running the events, programs, and services for students, alumni, faculty and other stakeholders that are related to the work.
  • Recognizing that the generosity of the Kletjian Foundation that has established “seed funding” to support the launch of this strategic initiative, and recognizing that both the Kletjian Foundation and Babson envision global impact that will require the Healey Center to scale, take the lead in acquiring additional funding that will support growth. This includes collaborating with Advancement to seek additional philanthropic support; working closely with Corporate and Foundation Relations to secure new funds through grants; and working with Babson Executive Education and other Babson partners to generate revenues with a positive margin in order to support the growth of the Healey Center.
  • Collaborates closely with Babson College units (President's Office, Undergraduate School, Graduate School, Executive Education, The Babson Academy, Advancement, College Marketing, and other Academic Centers and Institutes) to advance shared objectives. This also includes work with BOW (the Babson, Olin, Wellesley Collaboration).
  • Works with the Kletjian Chair (once hired) to advance scholarship and education (curricular and co-curricular) related to the Healey Center mission; engage faculty research and participation; and implement strategic leadership that develops programming, curriculum, and events that serve the needs of all Center stakeholders.
  • Acts as liaison for the Center's external sponsors and supporters, and collaborates with all offices across the College (e.g., Admissions, CCD, College Marketing, Executive Education, Entrepreneurial Centers, Alumni Affairs, Advancement and Student Affairs).
  • Builds a global network to advance education and thought leadership related to driving innovation in global health and healthcare systems.
  • Creates high visibility for Healey Center and other Babson initiatives.
  • Serves as the spokesperson for the Healey Center, attending events and conferences and representing the Center and Babson externally.
  • Works with the Babson Faculty Research Fund (BFRF), the Dean of Faculty, Kletjian Chair, and the Provost to attract and coordinate research funding awards for healthcare innovation.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with members of the Healey Center's Council of Strategic Advisors. Responsible for organizing meetings and ensuring effective engagement and communication with the Council members.
  • Manages to budget and provides direction and oversight to the Healey Center's budget management process.
  • Responsible for producing communications, newsletters, and digital marketing efforts and communications plans through the Healey Center's website and social medial platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Babson Entrepreneurs blog). Works with College Marketing and Public Relations to disseminate activities, events, and research regarding the Center which includes website development, maintenance, designing social media strategies, and analyzing analytics. Oversees the creation of a database that captures critical information on all participations in the Healey Center's programs and events; identifies criteria for success and tracks results.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Education Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education Required: Master's degree

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • At least 10+ years in a responsible leadership role, including setting and implementing strategy; identifying and pursuing growth opportunities; building a stakeholder network; attracting resources; and business development
  • Proven ability to work with colleagues across multiple departments and divisions including experience working with students and multiple stakeholders (corporate, non-profit, or other constituencies)
  • Must have program management expertise and proven experience in designing and coordinating events
  • Must have some experience working with or in higher education
  • Must be a self-starter and ability to lead and motivate others who are not direct reports
  • Must have leadership, judgment, supervisory, and creative problem-solving experience
  • Must have excellent oral, written, telephone, and presentation skills as well as a strong attention to detail
  • Must have superior analytical and database management skills and familiarity with project management tools
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively, yet independently; ability to influence without authority and facilitate difficult conversations/negotiations
  • Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support Entrepreneurial Thought & Action; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results
  • Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions
  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, JIRA, OASIS) as well as website development including knowledge of HTML
  • Must have a strong proficiency in social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WordPress. Familiarity with social media tools including dashboards.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires some evenings/weekends and domestic/international travel
  • Must have a valid Passport.

Additional Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience building, managing, and stewarding a global network of leaders in global health and healthcare innovation is desirable
  • Experience managing budgets, developing funding proposals, grant-writing and fundraising preferred
  • Experience working in the healthcare sector is preferred
