Biotechnology Lab AssistantDescription/Job Summary

Overview of position

Individual will report to the Program Coordinator/facilitators of Biotech and Lab Animal Sciences and be responsible for performing tasks required for the smooth running of the labs for Biotechnology, Lab Animal Sciences.

Responsibilities/Duties

Essential Functions:

1. Set up and take down of lab practical.
2. Inoculations of pathogenic cultures and biotech cultures.
3. Maintenance of bacterial/fungal stock and working cultures
4. Preparation of all microbiological culture media for stocks and all lab activities
5. Preparation of storage solutions reagents utilized in the micro/biotech laboratories
6. Utilization and maintenance of laboratory equipment (steam autoclave, ultracentrifuge, cold rooms, incubators, HPLC, Laminar flow hoods, gel electrophoresis apparatus, microscopes, etc.
7. Maintenance and control of inventory
8. Routine maintenance of teaching lab areas
9. Preparation of SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and agrose gels for lab activities
10. Collaborate with faculty in General Biology
11. Preparation of purchase orders for lab supplies, materials, and equipment

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

1. AA degree in the sciences, biotechnology or a Science student
2. General Biology, Microbiology and Biotech Laboratory skills
3. Background in Biological & Physical Science courses
