Stanford Redwood City Campus

Our new Stanford Redwood City campus opened in early 2019 and is the workplace for approximately 2,700 staff whose jobs are important to supporting the university's mission. The campus brings departments together in a collaborative environment that reflects Stanford's culture. Stanford University has annual revenues of $6B+ and assets of $44B, and its academic and support enterprise comprises many different and varied “lines of business”. Office of the Treasurer (OOT) is a central finance function and supports the full range of these many stakeholders. Your highly visible position in OOT reports to the Director of Cash Management and Operations and potentially interacts with every school, department, and organization across the university. The purpose of this role is to lead efforts to leverage technology to optimize business processes and systems within the Treasury function, driving efficiency, reducing manual work and improving client satisfaction.


You will support the University's Treasury mission to enhance the University's financial resources by providing competitive financing, managing operating liquidity, and practicing sound financial risk management.



To be successful in this role you will:


  • Translate Treasury related business processes into system requirements and/or development of systems solutions in the Treasury domain. Responsible for the project management, collaboration, design, support, implementation, documentation, and training to fully automate systems in support of banking operations in 25+ countries and 15+ currencies

  • Analyze new business requirements, assist with feasibility of enhancement requests, system functionality, current system use and user needs; current initiatives include building an international banking structure, develop forex management, improve cash and liquidity utilization and maximization

  • Specify functional analysis and design and work with cross-functional team including users, developers and analysts to recommend solutions and resolve system issues (including APIs, Oracle ERP -both on EBS and Cloud, SWIFT, Treasury Management Systems, payment gateways, etc.

  • Review, research and evaluate Treasury-related software, especially emerging Fintech solutions, to determine its usefulness and appropriateness as related to existing or proposed business systems; assist or develop preliminary and detailed system design documentation.

  • Liaise with external vendors or partners in support of business systems, which may include system development, implementation and/or operations.

  • Perform testing of new systems, upgrades and patching of existing systems; plan, conduct and document results of testing

  • Develop instructional materials, training and job aids

  • Advise users requiring assistance in solving complex problems or issues regarding Treasury management and business systems; manage ad-hoc Treasury projects that may originate from across the University

  • Analyze data and provide data sets to users for analysis. May include development of operational and analytical reports for end users.

  • Coordinate the implementation of new or modified business systems

  • Create and deliver presentations and communications to varying levels of audience, including distributed users of Treasury services, Senior Management and externally at conferences and meetings

  • Participate in industry related network groups to benchmark and execute on cash and liquidity best practices that achieve measurable improvement towards improved processes, and an automated and lean central University Treasury operation; Develop current financial industry market, product, regulatory compliance, and services knowledge

  • Participate in strategic long-term planning for Treasury operations

To be successful in obtaining this position you will also have:


  • 5 - 8 consecutive years of active Treasury experience for a large organization ($1B+ in annual revenue)

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or related field

  • Ability to work with and synthesize extremely large data sets and the willingness to dive into the details and discover meaning

  • A demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, manage time and work independently with little direction and oversight to manage and deliver on multiple projects

  • Demonstrated Proficiency in MS Office tools, ERP and TMS systems, and data visualization

  • Ability to work comfortably with technical, IT, privacy office, legal, info sec, IT engineers and non-finance technical partners

  • Familiarity with, and a strong conceptual understanding of information systems - including network architecture, common programming languages, software applications, cloud computing, tokenization and security, data visualization and reporting tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong prior experience leading change management needs

  • Ability to build and leverage cross-functional relationships

  • Flexibility and the resilience to roll with the changing requirements in an evolving environment while collaborating cross functionally

  • A curious mind with a willingness to question assumptions, existing processes, and conventional wisdom

  • Demonstrate openness, trust, acceptance of diversity, be proactive, and engaged.



In addition, our preferred requirements include:


  • CTP Credential

  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting

  • Relevant IT certification

  • Master's degree in finance or accounting or related field

  • Higher education or government past experience
