Candidates whose research aligns with the following areas are of particular interest: (1) innovation in water and wastewater treatment, (2) linking environmental fate and transport processes to human and ecosystem health in extreme and non-extreme conditions, (3) engineering approaches for water security.

UCI offers an exceptional environment for a successful career in environmental engineering with tremendous strength in water research within CEE and in fields of engineering, natural, social and information sciences. The collaborative culture on the UCI campus poses many opportunities for interdisciplinary research. Additionally, Southern California is a mosaic of cities and open spaces whose history and future are inextricably tied to water, and whose experiences with water are paralleled by coastal metropolitan areas around the world facing water security challenges from population growth, development pressure, extreme events, demands for ecosystem protection and water scarcity.

The UCI campus offers a unique housing environment for faculty, with well over a thousand homes within walking distance from campus, the best public schools in California are found in the City of Irvine, and world famous beaches and open space preserves are easily accessible.

Applicants are required to have a doctoral degree and preference will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree in engineering. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous externally funded research program, maintain a strong publication record, advise students, provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute their leadership and innovative thinking toward excellent programs and projects within the department and the university. Applications should include a cover letter, a description of research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, a statement describing commitment to diversity, and the names and contact information of at least four references.
