Position Description:
Provide executive-level support to the Latin American Institute Director on policy, administrative, and budgetary matters and serves as the senior staff administrator for the Institute. Areas of responsibility include: Program Development and Administration; Contract and Grant Administration; Financial Management; Personnel; Outreach, Fund-Raising, and Public Communications; and Operations Management. Participate in the development of the Institute's long-range strategic plan and formulate proposals for the allocation of resources (e.g., budget, staff, and space) focused on: supporting Institute-sponsored research initiatives; improving the national and international visibility of Latin American Studies at UCLA; increasing campus participation in the national dialogue on Latin America; development of donor relations; and support for undergraduate/graduate instruction and faculty/graduate student research.
Oversee event scheduling and management, including selection of venue, travel arrangements for visitors, logistics, staffing, publicity, catering, and entertainment. Collaborate with PIs in writing, editing, and assembling funding proposals in compliance with agency and University requirements and deadlines. Coordinate proposal submission. Assist the Institute Director in establishing and administering the annual budget, consisting of contract and grant funds, state funds, private foundation and gift funds, endowment funds, and University funds. Prepare long-term budget projections. . Serve as liaison, when required, with local consular corps, universities and community colleges, community groups, and other campus units in sponsoring events and programs. Assist in establishing and maintaining contacts in the diplomatic community, business sector, and with local government representatives. Manage daily operations of Institute administrative offices; assign tasks and assure timely completion to meet Institute goals; review and revise administrative and operating procedures, as needed. Assure availability of suitable training; evaluate performance.

In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
