The Department of Biological Sciences at Randolph College seeks applicants for a full-time, one-year visiting assistant professor position in zoology and animal behavior to begin in August of 2020. The Department of Biological Sciences at Randolph College is an integrative biology department that emphasizes evolution across our curriculum. The department consists of six faculty and a full-time laboratory technician. Members of the department have access to teaching and research lab space, a vivarium, the Randolph College Natural History and Archaeology Collections, and multiple college-owned nature preserves. Primary responsibilities

The teaching load is four courses per semester and will include introductory biology, zoology and zoology laboratory, animal behavior and animal behavior laboratory, and other courses depending on the needs of the department and College.  The successful candidate may also have an opportunity to create and teach courses in evolution, natural history, and/or their area of expertise. Establishment of a research program is not required for this position, but the visiting zoologist will be able to conduct research that utilizes the department’s established resources.

Required qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences (with specialization in animal behavior and/or zoology) completed by August 2020.
  • Evidence of demonstrated excellence in undergraduate instruction.
  • Evidence of active research and scholarship in animal behavior and/or zoology.
  • Ability to teach courses in zoology and animal behavior, with an emphasis on evolutionary biology.
  • A commitment to inclusive undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting.
