Job Summary:The Director of Accounting, reporting to the Associate Controller, is responsible for overall campus and Medical Center objectives, policies, and plans wherever financial accounting, plant accounting and payroll accounting activities are involved. The Director assists the Associate Controller in management responsibility and authority for the financial direction of the departments within the Controller's Division of the University of California, Irvine. Assists in exercising all applicable statutory responsibilities and for advising and making recommendations to the Associate Controller regarding all accounting and financial reporting for the Controller's division.

The Director is responsible for planning, organizing and operating a diversified accounting system, including managerial direction over three accounting units in the Controller's Office: General Accounting, Plant Accounting and Payroll Accounting. The Director is also responsible for directing and coordinating the fiscal year close for UCI as well as the primary point of contact for UCOP Accounting Office for fiscal close and audit activities. This requires extensive engagement with University chief business officers to ensure that UCI is adhering to UCOP policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and government accounting standards. The Director is an integral member of the internal controls team to support key activities directly associated with UC Irvine's Controls and Risk Management Program. Requires the ability to coordinate campus wide strategies to meet stringent compliance requirements.

The Director performs the highest level of accounting analysis and reconciliation, maintains the integrity of the existing financial system and solves system issues in a timely fashion. The Director is also a leader in the development of new financial systems for campus and medical center. Writes functional specification for system implementation and enhancement requests, and participates in reviewing test results. Performance at this high level often deals with new issues, programs, systems or proposals, requiring good management perspective and foresight, innovative ideas and creative thinking, and expert knowledge of financial systems and accounting operations. The Director will be responsible for generating financial statement reports that will be used to present to the Vice Provost, CFO and other external users of financial information.

Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
Career Position.
The Director generally works in the accounting offices with occasional travel to the various meetings and conferences as required. Working hours are frequently more than 8 hours/day or 40 hours per/week.
Must have a valid CA driver's license and participate in the DMV Pull-Notice Program.
