Job Summary: This position is assist with the management and operation of the general and life safety programs including safety equipment inspection services and building inspection services.

Additional Department Summary: This position is responsible for the management and operation of the general and life safety programs including safety equipment inspection services and building inspection services. This includes, but is not limited to, inspections and the resulting correspondence related to safety concerns. Communication is essential to this position especially among campus partners such as Housing and Residential Communities and Fraternity and Sorority Life. This position is also responsible for event reviews including social events requested on campus, and the effective response to campus safety concerns. This position is a supervisory position for those employees assigned to the Life Safety Area within EHS, including summer staff assigned to the inspection and maintenance of safety equipment in Housing facilities. This Assistant Manager for Life Safety is also expected to maintain documentation associated with purchases for fire and life safety. The employee in this role is also responsible for the issuance of corrective work orders related to safety inspections and those internally related to EHS. The employee is required to maintain communication accessibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and as such, may be required to respond to emergency situations after hours. Finally, the Assistant Life safety Manager is responsible to assist with other job duties as assigned and essential to EHS.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of safety experience within a University setting; or High School Diploma and five (5) years of safety experience within a University setting.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to operate Microsoft Office software. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced safety certificate from the National Safety Council and supervisory experience.
