The department is seeking civil engineer candidates with expertise and interest in research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources.
The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.
Duties/ResponsibilitiesThis position will be requested to teach a minimum of 24 credit hours (or equivalent) per academic year and maintain minimum of 5 office hours per week to include advising and consultation with students. In addition to teaching, the position will require being active in engineering technology professional societies and activities, engaging in professional development, scholarly activities, applying current technical computer language/software and using other technologies in the classroom. Candidates will be expected to teach in the classroom as well as in the laboratory setting. The department is seeking civil engineer candidates with expertise and interest in research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, hydrology, and water resources. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to join a vibrant and growing department. Full time faculty members are also required to provide service to the department and institution by participating on committees, academic advising, contributing to course and program development, assessments related to accreditation, update course curriculum and contribute to course development. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population that includes U.S. ethnic minorities and/or women.
Required QualificationsHave earned (or will complete by August, 2020) a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications1.Indication of ability to contribute to the teaching mission of the university, college, and department.
2.Expertise in one or more of the following areas: hydraulics, hydrology, architectural engineering, construction management, geotechnical engineering, and water resources.
3.Demonstrated strong research interest within the applicant’s area(s) of expertise.
4.Proven strong communication skills.
5.Commit to support service and diversity initiatives at the university, college, and department levels.
