Assistant/Associate Professor of Sports Media

This tenure-eligible position starting August 16, 2020, offers the successful applicant the opportunity to teach and produce scholarly and/or creative work in one of the strongest undergraduate communication programs in the country. The specific area of expertise within sports media is open, however, we are especially interested in individuals whose work matches the current focus within the program on diversity in the sports media complex, new media, and/or esports and gaming.

This position serves a sports media program that moved to the prestigious Roy H. Park School of Communications in 2016. The degree was one of the first established, stand-alone sports media majors in the country and continues to evolve to prepare students for current challenges within the industry.

Position/Job Qualifications

Successful college teaching experience is preferred, and a commitment to a student-centric liberal arts education within a professional program is expected. Teaching responsibilities will likely include a mix of classes in sports media relations, contemporary issues in sports media, and media industries, as well as classes catered to the applicant’s specific area of expertise. We provide an environment where pedagogical and curricular innovation is highly valued.

Ph.D. preferred. Master’s degree and relevant professional experience required. Sport industry experience is highly desirable.

The chosen candidate will be widely supported from a variety of areas throughout the campus. For instance, the Park School distributes up to $20,000 in Pendleton grants annually, we have formed relationships with local and national media for faculty and student work, there is a school-wide commitment to diversity through several initiatives that have been prioritized by the institution, and many more exciting opportunities that continue to evolve.

The ideal candidate will be an effective, inclusive, and engaging educator, have a demonstrated record of professional accomplishment, and bring additional visibility to the program, both within the college and nationally.
