This position is responsible for tutoring and assisting students in the Writing Lab. Work consists of approximately 16 weeks in the Fall and Spring Semesters and approximately 10 weeks in the Summer. This position pays $18 to 20/hour depending on credentials.
Essential DutiesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES AND/OR COMPETENCIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
• Knowledge of standard written English and MLA style.
• Ability to explain rules of grammar and usage.
• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
MAJOR DUTIES
• Assist students with compositions, grammar, and usage.
• Perform a variety of related duties.
• Bachelor’s degree in English.
• Two years of high school or college teaching experience.
• One or more years of tutoring and teaching experience; experience working with English as second language learners desired.
• Master’s degree in English, English education, or related field with 18 graduate hours in English.
• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
• The work is typically performed in a classroom.
