Preferred QualificationsPosition Summary

The responsibility of the position ranges from the basic clerical work to management of a lab of 10-15 people, with the majority being one-year visitors from overseas. The PI of the lab has active interactions with researchers across the globe, including research collaboration, joint grant proposal development, editorial work and international and domestic travel. This position will provide support related to these activities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Basic clerical skills, basic computer skills, including Excel and webpage management, strong communication skill; familiar with the UGA computer systems.

Provide administrative assistance to the PI, including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, processing expense reimbursements, and preparing documents for various purposes.

Obtain appropriate visas (typically H1B or J1) for incoming graduate students and visiting scholars; obtain extension of visas as needed. Coordination with the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, UGA EITS and the Office of International Education International Student, Scholar and Immigration Services.

Provide direct support in proposal development, including budget development and justification, subaward documentation, supporting materials, compliance with human/animal subjects requirements, etc. Submit proposal through Sponsored Programs Office; initiate and route transmittal form.

Coordination of lab wide activities and maintenance of the lab’s webpage. CSBL is a dynamic bioinformatics research lab consisting of 3-5 post docs and graduate students, and up to 10 short-term (usually foreign) visitors annually.

Manage grant requirements for establishing accounts for pending awards, reporting, progress, incremental funding, no cost extension, etc. until termination. Facilitate inquiries regarding award information by granting agency, faculty, and/or UGA Sponsored Programs office. This includes writing justifications for normal procedures as well as special approvals/exceptions to OMB CASB policies, preparing appropriate forms, routing to all relevant departments on campus and follow-up.

Manage UGA Foundation funding for Eminent Scholar in bioinformatics endowment account, adhering to principles regarding expenditures and reimbursements. Annually submit request for research support based on spending budget report. Process reimbursement requests provided that they support the research mission of the University of Georgia and donor guidelines.

Coordinate lecture schedule for a team of five faculty members teaching graduate level course each Fall, posting PowerPoint and other class materials to eLC, recording grades throughout the semester, submitting final grade to Registrar’s Office. Similar duties are performed for a Spring cancer bioinformatics course. Act as liaison between faculty and students.
