Job Summary
The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time (12 month), Instructor and Student Support Specialist for the School of Psychology on the Hattiesburg Campus. This is a full-time position that requires summer teaching and service. Student Support Specialists work as part of a team to coordinate advising for undergraduate psychology majors and to support the advisement process of other majors housed in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The School of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Clinical, Counseling, & School), a master’s program in counseling psychology, and a general/experimental doctoral program. The position is based on the Hattiesburg campus, but could include occasional travel for recruitment events or collaborations with the Gulf Park campus.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1.Teach a maximum of six hours each semester including an Academic Success and Learning Skills course.
2.Advise undergraduate psychology majors including course selection, transfer processes, graduation application, and remediation efforts.
3.Assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of creative student success initiatives.
4.Support remediation efforts for at risk students by working individually and in small groups with academically at-risk students.
5.Collaborate with the School of Psychology and College of Education and Human Sciences student support team to develop and deliver creative and effective student support and advising initiatives.
6.Supervise graduate assistants.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will have earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology or related field; and have experience in student success and counseling services or activities.

Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong interpersonal skills are required and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in professional settings.

Preferred Qualifications
Applicants licensed or with license eligibility in discipline and experience in higher education, university settings and/or counseling services are preferred.
