Food Service Worker I - Hospitality Management

Job Description
Based on the volume of applications received this recruitment may close at any time. Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Under direct supervision, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Safely operate standard kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Must be able to identify and properly handle herbs and other foodstuffs.
  • Maintain equipment as directed.
  • Fill requisitions made by instructors on a timely basis; ensure food products are wholesome.
  • Working knowledge of health and sanitation as it pertains to the food service industry.
  • Able to distinguish between odors, and shades of color
  • Functionally communicate occupational-based English, both written and verbal.
  • Must maintain personal hygiene.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds and, occasionally, with assistance, heavier items.
  • Clean kitchens and work areas, as well as equipment.
  • Cook and chill standardized recipes utilizing good sanitation practices.
  • Receive and store food and supplies in assigned warehousing and/or cold storage areas; Control inventory.
  • Train and supervise part-time kitchen workers.
  • Setup and/or cleanup for department catering functions.

The work environment potential conditions include:
  • Indoor and outdoor.
  • Extreme hot and cold temperatures, including humidity.
  • Slippery surfaces.
  • Exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes and/or gases.
  • Exposure to potential food allergens including, but not limited to: latex, nuts, fish/shellfish, eggs, milk and wheat.
  • Necessity to work on feet 90% or more each shift.

Hours of operation vary between 6 am to 11 pm, 7 days a week. Must be available to work days, nights and weekends.

Required Qualifications
  • One year of experience in quantity food preparation and service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain, at own expense, a Southern Nevada Health Department - Food Handlers Safety Training Card.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be punctual, courteous and productive.
  • Willing and able to work with a team.
  • One year minimum of accredited, post-secondary culinary school, or two years cooking in a fine dining establishment.

Other Associated Factors
  • Position requires reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Work may require standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods.
  • Must be punctual, courteous and productive.
  • Must maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Must be coach-able; work well together with a team.
  • Assist kitchen manager with other related duties as necessary for operations.

Salary Range
Grade 20, Step 1 - Grade 20, Step 10
$28,020.96 - $39,943.44
