Position: Assistant Professor of Commercial Music

Starting Date: August, 2020

Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned Master’s Degree in Music from an accredited institution is required at the time of application.
2) Evidence of teaching experience.
3) Evidence of professional experience in the commercial music industry.

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of successful teaching experience in commercial music areas such as commercial harmony, music technology, recording and mixing, history of commercial music, etc.
2) Evidence of experience in entrepreneurship in music.
3) Evidence of experience creating online course content.
4) Evidence of teaching applied music at the college level on a commercial music instrument or voice, with the preferred instrument being electric and acoustic guitar.

Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, scholarship and/or creative activity, research, and service to the University, profession and to the community.  These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The successful candidate will teach courses within the commercial music area such as commercial harmony, recording and mixing, use of DAWS (ProTools, Logic, etc.), commercial music history, and others. The teaching assignment may include history of popular music courses, applied music, as well as additional courses or ensembles contingent upon the candidate’s expertise, interest, and department needs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will actively collaborate with other faculty as performing and/or composing musicians, and actively participate in the department’s vision to serve the community through workshops and engagement. Additionally, the successful candidate should demonstrate a knowledge of the global music industry and how to integrate the music business, entrepreneurship, and media studies into a successful career.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
