Full-time Faculty Positions

Full-time faculty positions will be posted on a per-opening basis. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Applicants will be evaluated at the college/school level for the position which they are submitting an application. Unless noted by a close date, positions will remain open until they are filled. Part-time Faculty Positions

DePaul University invites expressions of interest for a pool of qualified Part Time Faculty to teach courses in a variety of disciplines across all 10 colleges and schools. Individuals may enter expressions of interest by submitting their credentials to any posting for which they are qualified to teach. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Screening of individuals in the pool is ongoing, depending on curricular need and funding. Individuals will be contacted by the department if they reach the finalist stage for teaching a particular course or set of courses. The pool will remain in place until the closing date specified in the posting details; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must resubmit. All individuals in the pool will be notified by email when the posting is closed.

The Game Design program in the School of Design within the College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul invites applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in September 2020. We are seeking candidates who push the boundary of how games shape culture and get made, bridging the conceptual, experimental, and speculative sides of design with practical production.

The successful candidate will be involved in our undergraduate and graduate programs teaching foundational and advanced design concepts design, building practice-based workshops around specific skills, and leading collaborative studio courses. Located in the heart of Chicago, the School of Design prides itself on nurturing a diverse body of students to become visionary and interdisciplinary designers. You will be involved in mentoring students through the process of designing imaginative experiences that include from indie, avant-garde, activist, and personal games; connecting them to local art, performance, and game studios; and helping them showcase work to the public communities at festivals, museums, activist events, and conferences. Additionally, DePaul is committed to the broader community of Chicago, and the successful candidate will work with students to engage community partners like high schools, museums, and NGOs in social justice oriented collaborations. The Game Design program works alongside sister programs in the College of Computing and Digital Media, and we are interested in applicants who can foster collaborations with colleagues in programming, audio, graphic design, theater, animation, and user experience design.

Faculty in the School of Design are given many forms of support to develop their careers as scholars and artists. Faculty have access to cutting-edge equipment and lab spaces, including several VR and AR production and play spaces, two well equipped makerspaces, advanced playtesting labs, as well as recording, film, and motion capture studios. The position features well-paid compensation and support for presenting work at festivals and conferences. Colleagues in the Game Design program are dedicated to mutual success and growth, and we are interested in someone who will add new dimensions to our program.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the position will have teaching, research and/or creative development experience in several of the following areas:

  • Systems & balance design
  • Writing and narrative design for games
  • The craft of game-feel
  • Exhibiting, publishing, or otherwise publicly presenting finished games
  • Designing games using non-traditional materials (textiles, ceramics, plants, electronics) or experimental interfaces (custom controllers, AR, street games)
  • Developing games that use personal, public, commercial, and domestic spaces
  • Critical media theory
  • Social, political, or educational approaches to design
  • Player research methods
  • Design for accessibility and inclusivity

We are looking for someone with a vision for the future of games, and are interested in artists, activists, academics, and design professionals who feel on the outside of game design but use games as one medium among others. Qualified candidates will have experience with teaching or mentoring in either an educational or professional environment as well as a developed body of creative work.
