8:00 am – 5:00 pm; Monday – Friday with ‘on-call’ designation for up to one week at a time.

This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Projects Supervisor is a second-line supervisor on our project repair group. The position supervises 2 full-time maintenance staff operating in a dispersed work site, and is responsible for recruitment, evaluations, and discipline. Additionally this person will supervise a team of between 10 and 30 student employees. This position is responsible for assigning work orders to field staff in the department’s work order software, and handles all purchasing to supply the daily operations of this unit. Additionally, this position has primary responsibility for field supervision of all renovation projects in housing facilities, including both work contracted with outside vendors and work performed using internal staff.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a technical college with a major in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology and a minimum of three years progressive experience in facility maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties

The Projects Supervisor oversees carpentry, paint, and wall repairs as well as serves as a primary contact for outside contractors and vendors who are working on departmental projects.

This includes involvement in and coordination of project bids, meetings, and inspections and oversee daily operations as it relates to supervision and employee relations, project management, purchasing, work order management, time reporting,and safety compliance.

Other Work Responsibilities

The Projects Supervisor also works with Facilities Management support operations including surplus, recycling/waste management, and electricians serving Housing and Residence Life operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Minimum 5 years’ experience in Facility Maintenance Operations, particularly around project and work repair management, purchasing, time reporting, and safety compliance.

Supervisory experience.

Experience with or technical knowledge of carpentry, paint, sheetrock / wall repairs, and/or general maintenance.

Project management knowledge and experience.

Experience managing a budget.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) and have the computer and written skills to write bid specifications and other formal written documents for projects.
