Major Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in core areas of the curriculum and one of the following specialty areas: event management or recreation administration/leisure services management. Core areas may include diversity and inclusive recreation services, programming, evaluation and research, applied technology in recreation, recreation administration, and/or legal aspects. Specific management-related courses may include special events planning, human resource management, commercial and entrepreneurial recreation, campus recreation programming and administration, site and facility planning, camp and outdoor program administration, and/or youth development.
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the program.
• Provide service to the RPLS Department, the School of Professional Studies, the SUNY Cortland campus community, and the professional field.
• Engage in scholarly work and activities as appropriate to the application and receipt of tenure and promotion at SUNY Cortland.
• Guide graduate student research.
• May include online graduate program administration/teaching.
• May include internship supervision.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the academic department chair

Required Qualifications

• Earned doctorate, with at least one degree in recreation, parks or leisure studies. ABD applicants with a designated date of completion within twelve (12) months of start date may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching and professional experience in the event management/recreation administration/leisure services management area.
• Online program/course administration and/or teaching.
• Experience supervising student interns.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly work (publications and presentations) in recreation and leisure services, or strong evidence of potential for future related scholarly work.
• Involvement as a member of local, state or national professional associations in the field.
• Demonstrated record of academic or community service, or strong evidence of potential for future related service contributions.
