The Rice 360° Institute for Global Health offers innovative research & education programs to design and implement new technologies to solve real global health challenges. The Neonatal Essential Solutions and Technologies (NEST 360°) program, led by Rice 360°, is an eight-year initiative to enable African hospitals to provide comprehensive newborn care, and to establish a pipeline of local innovators, technicians and medical staff, in partnership with an international group of engineers, physicians, health experts and entrepreneurs from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Sub-Sahara Africa. NEST360° aims to implement comprehensive newborn care through innovative lifesaving technologies, the provision of both technical and clinical capacity-building, implementation of clinical and technical educational programs and the building of a sustainable distribution network. The first phase of the project will focus on Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria.

Rice 360° is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the NEST training material coordinator. S/he will work with the NEST360° team on the creation and compilation of a suite of education materials for workforce development of clinicians, biomedical technicians, and biomedical engineers in Phase I countries. The NEST training material coordinator will work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive package of NEST educational modules and coordinate with subject matter experts, to incorporate the education content into its multiple formats. S/he will manage the competing needs of multiple stakeholders in the US and Phase I countries and develop work plans which comply with NEST360° timelines.

The ideal candidate can manage the competing needs of multiple stakeholders and is able to work in a highly collaborative and multi-cultural environment. S/he is committed to supporting work in low or under resourced area.

Master’s degree in global health, health policy, education, psychology, or other related field.

- Must have demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with program staff, faculty and course teams and external contractors
- Demonstrated project management capabilities using established project planning tools and software
- Substantial knowledge and skills in current educational technologies, software and learning platforms

Internal / External Contacts

Frequent contact with the Rice 360° offices in Houston and Blantyre, Malawi as well as extensive contact with international partners.

Physical Demands

Requires working at a computer for extended periods of time (up to eight hours per day).

- Travel on a regular, potentially extended, basis to Blantyre, Malawi

Essential Functions

- Performs analysis of learning and business needs
- Proactively consults with subject matter experts to identify and formulate learning objectives and content
- Designs learning and performance support solutions
- Drafts storyboards and prototypes
- Designs and develops course content, instructor and participant materials, including performance support materials
- Implements, evaluates and maintains learning solutions
- Interacts with vendor during design, development and implementation process as needed
- Performs all other duties as assigned

Additional Functions or Information

- Works collaboratively with experts to create and edit drafts of training materials including job aids, presentations, storyboards for video, instructor/training manuals, lecture slide decks, eLearning courses, and simulations
- Works with the Rice 360° director of communications to ensure consistent NEST360° branding is utilized across the suite of educational materials developed and to leverage the time and expertise of the NEST360° graphics designer
- Completes educational materials assignments at the request and guidance of the NEST360° Co-PIs for clinical pre-service training and for in-service training, NEST360° Biomedical Tech Training Director, and the NEST360° Director of Invention Education.
- Assists in the research and editing of copy for accuracy, effectiveness and style
- Writes copy or re-purposes content for the web and social media for the purposes of engaging trainees
- Proactively consults with subject matter experts (e.g., clinicians, engineers, editors, graphic designers, photographers, and videographers) to identify and formulate learning objectives and content
- Outsources videography and photography as needed
- Drafts storyboards and prototypes
- Ensures appropriateness, effectiveness and success of learning programs by participating in the evaluation of trainings and the effectiveness of materials
