The Biological and Environmental Sciences Department at Texas A&M University-Commerce invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2020. We seek candidates in the area of molecular biology that will complement current strength in cancer biology, stem cell biology, physiology, and environmental science. Specific experiences in various molecular biology technologies and therapeutics development are highly desirable.

The successful candidate will teach molecular biology, pharmacology, and other related biology courses. Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s interest and expertise. The candidate is also expected to mount an independent research program in the area of molecular biology that involves both graduate and undergraduate students.

In addition to teaching, candidates are expected to participate in service to the department and the college, which may include curricular development, undergraduate advising, and graduate advising.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain funded research program
  • Attract and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Advising students
  • Preparing syllabi
  • Updating course materials
  • Developing curriculum
  • Delivery of instruction both online and on any of the university campuses. Instructional duties may include teaching during the day, in the evening, or on Saturday
  • Working collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs
  • Providing service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community
  • Continual learning to stay current with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology or Developmental Biology
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Preference will be given to candidates with research experience utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 system. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Prior teaching and student mentoring experience are preferred.
