Departmental Overview

As a national collegiate leader, UC Berkeley's University Health Services (UHS) provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to minimize the impact of illness, emotional distress and injury on studies and work. Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, performs assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and case management of cases with a broad range of presenting issues and complexity including crisis counseling and high risk concerns. Provides brief counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and group counseling for students with personal, career and academic concerns. Provides consultation to faculty and staff.
  • Presents psychoeducational workshops for students and provides outreach and consultation to faculty and staff regarding student concerns.
  • Participates in the training and supervision of Post-MSW Fellows, Doctoral Psychology Interns, and Post-Doctoral Fellows.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

  • Masters in Social Work, Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy and current CA state license (LCSW or MFT). If licensed in another state, would need to be licensed within 6 months of residence in California.
  • Ability to work with high risk populations including severe and complex mental health concerns.
  • Advanced individual and group intervention skills including assessment, psychotherapy, and case management; working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issues.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking and workshop delivery.
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.
  • Experience with diverse multicultural populations.
  • Expertise working in a collaborative manner with diverse client groups, medical and mental health staff, and campus and community partners.
  • Effective skills in communication, coordination and consultation.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with college student populations and in university counseling.
  • Working knowledge of electronic health records.
