The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department embodies the university's tradition of excellence as a world-class leader in computer science and engineering education and research. Ranked in the top 20 nationwide, the department is dedicated to research, education and overall excellence. CSE has approximately 65+ faculty FTE, 20+ professional researchers, 45+ staff in career/casual titles, 300+ tutors, and 135+ TAs. There are approximately 1,800 undergraduate students enrolled in 4 majors, with annual enrollments of 27,000+. The department has a graduate education program involving 700+ students (240 PhDs and 500 Master's).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position has a dual reporting structure, reporting to both the MSO of CSE and the Executive Assistant Dean (EAD) of Finance and Administration in the Jacobs School of Engineering Dean's Office.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will serve as the Outreach and Diversity Coordinator for both the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and the Jacobs School of Engineering. The incumbent will provide program management support to outreach and diversity efforts which seeks to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles within the Jacobs School, with an emphasis on efforts at the department level and with the intention of broadening these efforts division-wide. Provides analyses and recommendations for the assessment of programmatic needs and related resources.

Involves activities associated with supporting strategic planning and decision making through the analysis and presentation of relevant data to faculty and staff leadership. The incumbent will coordinate EDI-related events and associated logistics and will serve as a member of CSE's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee and the Jacobs School's EDI Task Force. The incumbent will work closely with both the Jacobs School Dean's Office and CSE in the development of best practices related to EDI initiatives.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven experience gathering, organizing and performing analyses on diverse programs and initiatives as well as present findings and make recommendations that have department-wide impact, verbally and in writing. Analytical skills to evaluate multiple data from diverse sources and present with narrative in a form meaningful for management decision-making.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience with the organization and execution of interactive forums such as workshops and conferences. Experience and ability to design, develop, plan and implement activities and events to further goals in a program setting.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise tact, poise, mature judgment, diplomacy, flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness and sensitivity to interact with diverse individuals both inside and outside the University.

  • Superb written and oral communication skills. Skill to compose, edit and proofread correspondence, informational materials, web content, and reports. Skill to express verbally one’s position, plan of action, evaluation or interpretation in a professional, concise, and courteous manner

  • Strong ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail. Skill in independently researching compiling, organizing, interpreting and selecting data and materials from various sources. Ability to extract and analyze information from large and complex databases.

  • Solid ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Proven ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily operations, short and long-term projects. Ability to evaluate available resources and adjust schedule and priorities to meet established deadlines and complete projects.

  • Proficient skill in using personal computers and a wide variety of software packages for word-processing, spreadsheets, database processing, presentations, web and publication design, and calendaring (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Apps, etc.).

  • Proven ability to utilize spreadsheets and databases to interpret and organize resource and research information, and be able to provide customized reports to department management as needed.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision, to learn quickly, take initiative, prioritize tasks, and maintain composure while working under pressure of frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement with the acumen and sensitivity to identify those decisions and activities which require higher level consultation and/or group collaboration.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Ability to effectively, persuasively, and diplomatically collaborate at all organizational levels while maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion.
