The position is a 9-month appointment and located on the main campus. The desired starting date is August 1, 2020.
The Department of Agricultural Sciences (AS), within the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University, is seeking to fill a 9-month tenure track faculty position, at the Assistant Professor level. Clemson established the Agricultural Education program over a century ago and remains as the only certification program for Agricultural Education in the state. The candidate must contribute to a strong undergraduate teaching program and possess the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, teachers, and industry representatives with a commitment to a team approach to accomplish the mission of the program.
Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is expected. Teaching assignments are based on program needs, and the applicant’s interests and professional skills. A share of the teaching appointment will consist of supervising pre-service teachers during the student teaching experience and teaching courses in agricultural systems management. Research responsibilities will consist of collaboration with program faculty and students, Extension faculty and faculty in other CAFLS departments. The successful candidate will develop and lead a nationally recognized research program, obtain funding via external grants and contracts, and develop a strong peer reviewed publication record. Other responsibilities include advising students, serving on
departmental, college and university academic committees, and professional committees, advising student organizations (Collegiate FFA), and participating in outreach and professional development conducted by the program.
Clemson University is a R1 Land Grant university located on the shores of Lake Hartwell within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Upper Piedmont of South Carolina, USA. The Clemson student body consists of about 18,000 undergraduate students and 4,300 graduate students. The 1,400-acre campus is part of the 18,000 acres of University Farms and Forests devoted to teaching and research. Qualifications:
Required qualifications: A Ph.D. Degree in Agricultural Education, expertise in Agricultural Education and Leadership with a preferred 5 years of successful teaching. The candidate must have strong knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a teacher educator and possess the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses related to agricultural education and leadership and must have experience conducting research and exhibit potential for collaborative research productivity. Excellence in interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are expected.
Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to those candidates with five or more years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level in agricultural science programs. Experience working in agricultural systems management is also preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate an understanding of the land-grant university mission; show evidence of a record of high-quality peer-reviewed journal publications and have documented their ability to secure external funding to support an active research program.
