Assist the Associate Director for Student Accounting Services in all areas of Student Accounting including billing and reporting. Ensure adherence to accounting principles, governmental statuses and regulations and institutional policies.

Description of Duties

•Responsible for configuring student billing system to ensure processes are running efficiently, and accurately.
•Coordinates and processes student disbursements and runs drop processes, including other key tasks between several offices.
•Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff directly under their supervision.
•Responsible for the reconciliation of student billing system activity against financial system of record for the university.
•Collaborates in developing and implementing procedures to automate the student billing and disbursement processes.
•Stays current on student billing requirements set by the legislature.
•Collaborates with the Planning & Analysis Office for the Tuition and Fees assessment as needed.
•Updates Tuition and Fee tables in the student billing system on a semester basis, to be in compliance with the Tuition & Fees approved by the Board of Regents
•Coordinates semester setups in student billing system after each Census Date.
•Configures all third party contracts setups into student billing system.
•Assists the Associate Director with coordinating and working with business analysts on criteria for projects, request, issues, and/or departmental processes.
•Prepares various annual reports for state agencies as it pertains to student tuition and fees.
•Reviews and approves various accounting records, reports, applications, etc. in the absence of the Associate Director.
•Approves Payment/Installment Agreements for students that have an overdue balance in the absence of the Associate Director.
•Assists with the planning of accounting and clerical work procedures and operations.
•Reviews and recommends processes and task improvements within the department.
•Assigns and supervises the work of others.
•Performs other duties as assigned.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Business Administration or a related field.

Required Experience

Four (4) years’ experience performing analytical tasks within accounting, finance or closely related field, including supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience directly related to the duties.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend and evening work required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Other

Must possess exceptional planning, organizational, analytical and problem solving abilities. Must have ability to work under pressure and ability to interact with others.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
