Job Description:


Under the guidance of the Dean of Enrollment Management and College Access Programs and the Perkins Grant Coordinator, the Career Liaison will be responsible for working with students at local/regional middle schools and high schools through an organized approach to guide the students in career exploration and development activities with the aim of aiding them in making informed future college and career decisions and increase their success in Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways of choice. This position is grant funded and may not be refunded after June 30, 2020.


DUTIES:


  1. Works with local/regional middle schools and high schools to develop a systematic framework to aid CTE (Career Technical Education) students to make informed plans and decisions about future education and career opportunities.
  2. Incorporates pieces of DESE's My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) and MEFA's Your Plan for the Future into the framework.
  3. Carries out career exploration and development activities to inform students and facilitate future education and career plans, including information about non-traditional fields.
  4. Provides students with hands-on experiences of industries of interest, such as through simulation, site visits, and/or a fair.
  5. Provides career and labor market information to students.
  6. Organizes, maintains, and manages records.
  7. Collaborates within Admissions office and other offices on campus as needed.
  8. Follows College and grant policy and guidelines.
  9. May need to drive the HCC van to transport students to and from activities.


Requirements:


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and experience working with middle school and high school students; experience with program coordination or teaching; excellent communication and leadership/facilitation skills; excellent record-keeping and organizational skills; a valid driver's license.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with Career Technical Education; knowledge/expertise in (CTE) careers.

COMPENSATION: $28.29/hr., non-benefited.


HOURS: 15 hrs. max/week

Enrollment

HCC boasts the largest enrollment and awards the highest number of associate degrees and certificates among Western Massachusetts community colleges. Programs

Transfer

HCC has the highest transfer rate of any community college statewide, holding articulation agreements with more than 27 colleges and universities. Many students attend HCC with the intention of transferring to a four-year college or university. And many do so after graduating-often with generous and even full scholarships-to public and private four-year colleges and universities across the country. Locally, HCC is the largest feeder institution for Westfield State College and UMASS Amherst.

Immediate career entry

HCC offers short-term certificates and training for students whose goal is immediate career entry. HCC's Career Center provides additional assistance in helping students obtain employment in the region's many workplaces.
