The Division of GI,Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at theUniversity of Colorado, School of Medicine, has a full-time faculty positionavailable at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or PhysicianAssistant (PA).  Under the direction ofthe full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatientmedical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

 

JobResponsibilities:

Thecandidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for our Traumaand Acute Care Surgery service (TACS). These duties will include inpatient responsibilities such as rounding,writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination,disease management, and discharge activities. Additional outpatient responsibilities will include clinic care, triageof phone calls, emails or faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests,management of referrals and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiologytests.  Close collaboration with generalsurgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivistsand hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergencymedical personnel and primary care providers is essential. The candidate willprovide care to patients in the on the inpatient wards, in the intensive careunit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics.  Given the rotating nature of the residentassignments to services, the NP/PA will be a critical part of servicecontinuity and also a link between the inpatient and outpatient environmentsfor patients.  The census and acuity ofclinical activity varies service to service and NP/PAs may at times be asked toprovide cross coverage clinical care on different services to deal with thisissue.  One key feature of this positionis the need to work in collaboration with surgical housestaff.  


We are hiring for multiple positions.  Please note:  two positions will have the primary schedule of:  Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon.

QualificationsRequiredQualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges. 
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).  

  • PreferredQualifications: Two years’ experience in generalsurgery, trauma surgery, or critical care setting preferred.

     Primary Schedule:  Fri – Sun or Sat – Mon.
