Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Health Sciences

The department of Health Sciences at Stetson University invites applications for a visiting assistant professor position beginning January 2020. The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment that spans January 2020-May 2021 (3 semesters).

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a related field with demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates.  Candidates should have a strong commitment to innovative pedagogy. We are especially interested in candidates with experience mentoring undergraduate research projects and a record of scholarly publication. Postdoctoral experience is strongly recommended but not required. Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence; we are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in or record of scholarship in engaging students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities:  

Primary teaching responsibilities will include Exercise Physiology lecture and lab course and Senior Research Proposal/Project courses. The combined teaching load is equivalent to four course units per semester. Other courses will be based on the candidate's expertise and should complement and diversify our current course offerings and/or make a contribution to the General Education curriculum.

The department:

We are a collegial group of scholars consisting of five faculty with strengths in developmental and cardiovascular physiology, aging, and nutrition. We are deeply committed to effective teaching and to working with students in a mentoring capacity. 

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS):

Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts.  With nineteen academic departments and eight interdisciplinary programs, the College is the liberal arts core of the University.  A great strength of the College is its faculty of approximately 140 full-time teacher-scholars.  The College offers 31 undergraduate majors and 34 undergraduate minors; six graduate degrees are offered in Education, Counselor Education, and Creative Writing.  Every CAS undergraduate major requires a senior capstone project, providing students the opportunity to design and carry out quality, faculty-mentored research.  Our academic programs are shaped by the values of social justice and civic responsibility.  All of our courses and programs of study promote engaged learning, whereby students create connections between the classroom or lab and the local, regional, and global community. A new health and science building, currently in the planning phase, will be completed within the next 2 years. The Community:

DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 32,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.

Salary:  Salary is competitive.
