Under the general direction of the Chairs and the Director, the Manager manages all administrative and financial aspects of the Departments of Anthropology, Sociology, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Health & Society (ICHS). This position supports the Chairs and the Director in the development and implementation of short and long-term strategic plans and priorities based on the academic mission. The Manager works closely with the Chairs and the Director to develop proposals for new initiatives, including project timeline and budgets. The position forecasts, manages, and administers all financial budgets for the Departments and the Centre, including the oversight of research funding and all internal cost recoveries.

The Manager displays leadership to ensure the seamless and efficient delivery of services to the faculty, staff and students of the Departments and the Centre. This position has full managerial authority over all the administrative support staff in the Departments and the Centre. A high degree of judgment and initiative is required in resolving problems relating to administration, financial management, operations and human resources. The position requires a strong understanding of the internal workings and policies of the University to effectively manage the day-to-day operations. The Manager oversees administrative practices to ensure compliance with collective agreements, University and legislated policies and regulations. The Manager facilitates interaction and communication amongst staff and faculty, and plays an essential role in building a collaborative, efficient, innovative and diverse team culture for the Departments and the Centre.

Campus(Minimum Qualifications)

EDUCATION: University degree and a professional accounting certification or in the final stages of certification and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years’ related experience in a senior level position with a strong accounting/financial management responsibility. Experience in moderately complex budgeting, forecasting, auditing and analysis, and interpreting and applying policies and procedures, processing financial transactions, generating financial reports from a financial system, reconciling financial information, and process improvement. Experience managing staff is required. Experience dealing with complex Human Resource issues, Financial and Operations matter. Applicants are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

SKILLS: Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications and good knowledge of word processing software, preferably in Excel and Microsoft Word. Advanced knowledge of Outlook (email and calendar) required. Experience with the University’s Financial Information system (FIS), Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and Usource or similar systems is a strong asset.

OTHER: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others through collegial relationships. Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective problem solving skills, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Collaborative leadership. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Tact, good judgment, diplomacy and initiative. Detail oriented with attention to accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. A high level of professionalism, independence, judgement, and the ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Ability to understand and document processes and procedures. Demonstrated commitment to offering quality service, and fostering good working relations among all members of the University of Toronto.
