General Description / Primary Purpose

A 12-month renewable Academic Advisor position available in the School of Computing at the University of North Florida. The position requires exceptional focus on students’ success, self-motivation, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.

Essential Duties

Job Function

Academic Advising to Students of the School of Computing.
Job Functions
•Provide day-to-day academic advising to students. Assist in the preparation and delivery of workshops and training programs for the School of Computing programs, students, and co-advisors.
•Serve as a resource for all prospective and current UNF students within the School of Computing.
•Coordinate the implementation and administration of both University and School advising policies and initiatives with the lead advisor, unit advisors and director of the School of Computing.
•Assist in the design, development and implementation of processes and/or programs within the School.
•Recommend policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of the School programs with University academic advising initiatives.
•Update and review student records as needed.
•Assist in the processing of admission, probation, suspension, etc., as well as scheduled administrative functions associated with the academic calendar.
•Assist in the development of recruitment plans for potential undergraduate students.
•Assist in the organization of various School of Computing activities, such as Career Development Center events, events supporting academic initiatives, etc.
•During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific, job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Faculty Position Required QualificationsDepartmental Requirements

Preference given to applicants who meet the required qualifications and also possess the following:
Appropriate student advising experience, customer service experience in an educational setting requiring high student client contact, and/or computing background. Availability to stay until the work is complete and some weekends. Knowledge of basic advising techniques, knowledge of College/University environment; ability to analyze and interpret data/information. Demonstrate ability to speak in public and deliver quality customer service in an academic environment.

This position requires a background check. In conjunction with the University’s policy, this position may also require a credit check.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session. The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX.
