Position Summary:

WIDA, an international leader in the research and development of products and services to support multilingual language learners (MLLs) and their educators, invites applications for the inaugural role of Deputy Director. WIDA is housed in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) at the top-ranked School of Education (SOE) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since its founding in 2003, WIDA has experienced impressive growth and currently employs 140 staff with annual revenues exceeding $60 million.

Reporting to the Founder & Director of WIDA, the Deputy Director will have an opportunity to help shape this new role and have meaningful input into the organization's strategy and future direction. The Deputy Director will have overall operational responsibility for WIDA's growing staff, national and international programs, and execution of its plans for continued growth. Leading WIDA's exceptionally talented senior management team, the Deputy Director will ensure high functioning decision-making, purposeful collaboration, strategic planning, and project prioritization while building a culture of equity and inclusion across the organization. This position is located in Madison, Wisconsin.

The Deputy Director will be a mission-focused, experienced, strategic, and process-minded leader. Ideally, the Deputy Director will bring a deep knowledge of preK-12 education and large-scale assessment, with a steadfast commitment to WIDA's vision of being the most trusted and valued resource in supporting the education of multi-lingual learners.
The inaugural Deputy Director will help lead a dynamic and fast-growing organization. Since its founding, WIDA has expanded and improved its comprehensive system of assessments and instructional support for educators and practitioners of multilingual learners and grown from three to 140 employees with annual revenues exceeding $60 million. The WIDA Consortium has grown from three to 40 member states, territories, and federal agencies. The impact of WIDA has also expanded globally, as more than 400 schools are members of the WIDA International School Consortium. WIDA is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

The Deputy Director will lead and develop WIDA?s senior management team, including the Chief Marketing Officer, Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Assessment, Senior Director of Research and Development, Director of Consortium and State Relations, Director of Information Technology, and the Director of Professional Learning, as well as the finance and project management departments. In addition, the Deputy Director will promote high functioning decision-making, purposeful collaboration, strategic planning, and project prioritization, and will help build a culture of equity and inclusion across the organization.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MA in education, linguistics, or related field or MBA is required. Candidates with a Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.D. are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional experiences and personal characteristics:

* Experience leading in a mission driven organization with the goal of increasing both impact and reach;
* Excellence in organizational management with demonstrated ability to coach staff; manage, and develop high-performance teams; set and achieve strategic objective; and manage a complex budget;
* Excellent professional judgement managing change and conflict resolution;
* High level of skill managing communication strategies with stakeholders;
* Deep understanding of the culture of higher education either through direct experience within an institute of higher education (IHE) or through partnership projects;
* Demonstrated commitment and experience to equity, diversity, and inclusion in work and/or volunteer capacities;
* Leadership experience in the field of preK-12 domestic education;
* Knowledge about/experience with national education policy and implications for multi-lingual learner education, language proficiency assessments, and teacher professional development;
* Knowledge of large-scale education-related assessment development and delivery systems.

* Bi-lingual/biliterate;
* Experience in international preK-12 education.
