Position Summary:

This is a newly created administrative position within the University of Wisconsin- Madison Population Health Institute (PHI). This position will serve as research manager and primary administrative contact for contracts between PHI and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). The Population Health Institute has a long history of collaborating with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to hire and support staff whose primary roles are to contribute to a variety of public health efforts. This position will also provide UW-Madison based supervision and facilitate hiring and personnel management activities for PHI-appointed staff whose daily operations and deliverables are managed by staff based in the Department of Health Services. This position is also expected to interface regularly with staff in the Department of Population Health Sciences (PHS) related to a wide variety of administrative activities.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

BA or BS required. A degree in Business or accounting is preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Qualifications:
Two years of substantial involvement in research or sponsored programs administration, either in a sponsoring or recipient organization or the equivalent in a self-funding organization OR, alternatively, experience in accounting or human resources with significant knowledge of effort and salary funding and/or post award management.

Knowledge of UW accounting, grant, and financial systems; interpret and analyze school, university, and sponsor policies; guidelines, rules, and regulations.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience:
Demonstrated time-management skills, attention to detail, ability to problem-solve, excellent written communication skills, ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships, and ability to work independently
Demonstrated desire to work as part of an integrated administrative service team for collaboration, and to continually learn, develop or improve procedures and resources.
Familiarity with research-related contracts and working knowledge of university policies related to research
An understanding of state and university administrative policies
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proposal preparation and electronic submission process experience
Demonstrated commitment to working in a collaborative environment
Demonstrated history of initiative, flexibility and personal accountability
A successful record of project administration
Ability to plan for and meet strict deadlines while being able to incorporate new challenges
Knowledge of public health research and practice
