Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Job Summary: The Communications Specialist works with a department or area to develop and implement communication plans and activities to support the goals of a specific department, a college and/or The University.

Additional Department Summary: The Communication Specialist is responsible for Career Center branding and marketing at the macro and micro level. The individual will collaborate with appropriate stakeholders in developing communication pieces that resonate with diverse constituents. The position requires a high level of creativity and strong attention to detail. The Communication Specialist reports to the Director of Operations of the Career Center and will collaborate with other Managers, Directors, Career Consultants, and students inside and outside the department in order to provide a comprehensive communication plan. The individual needs to have a strong understanding of target audiences including but not limited to employers, students, faculty, staff, and parents to achieve effective marketing. The individual will regularly evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust accordingly. This role will have a dotted line relationship with Student Life Communications, so that they will be able to provide creative guidance as this role develops materials for the Career Center. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and safer work environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising and one (1) year experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications; OR Master's degree Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or Advertising. Related student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student oriented experience will be considered. Skills and Knowledge: Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to use relevant design tools to create marketing materials. Ability to receive constructive feedback. Strong familiarity with social media platforms and the ability to effectively leverage social media as a marketing tool. Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office software, and Apple products. Photography experienced required. Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer experience in a higher education setting.
