General Statement of Responsibilities

Performs a variety of manual and skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings, fixtures, and equipment. Makes routine repairs and adjustments to plumbing lines and fixtures, furniture, doors, and windows. Does remodeling work. May perform general groundskeeping functions, including mowing, trimming, weed control, irrigation, and the operation and maintenance of grounds equipment. Performs minor custodial duties.

Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Director, Facilities/Operations.

Supervision Exercised
Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. May oversee student workers.

Examples of Duties - Essential Functions

  1. Performs building systems maintenance, including HVAC and plumbing.
  2. Performs carpentry, remodeling, rough framing, cabinetry, and makes, assembles, and disassembles furniture.
  3. Performs building maintenance, including installing doors and windows, making general repairs, and painting. Disposes of hazardous materials and waste.
  4. Unlocks classrooms and buildings.
  5. Performs office moves and prepares new space for move-in; installs wall hangings.
  6. Performs set up and tear down for special events as assigned.
  7. Creates door signs, name tags, and name plates as needed.
  8. Performs general custodial duties such as stocking restrooms, cleaning up spills, and unclogging toilets.
  9. Performs general groundskeeping including operating mower, weed eater, blower, chipper, and chainsaw; assists with irrigation system and pest control.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Screening Criteria

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma is required. Five years' skilled maintenance experience in a related field is required.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

License: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)). Pest Control Applicators License required within one year of hire. Limited Maintenance Electrician license, HVAC certification and Building Operator certification preferred

Knowledge of: Hand and power tools, woodworking, carpentry, basic electricity, plumbing, and heating/air conditioning, irrigation and groundskeeping equipment, and machinery safety.

Skills: Diagnostic and repair skill; computer skills; verbal and written communication skills; skill in operation of tools and heavy equipment.

Ability to: Quickly and efficiently diagnose maintenance problems and make repairs; physically lift heavy items; work any shift at any location throughout the RCC District. Pass a pre-employment work capacity evaluation, criminal background check, and drug screen test.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required for about half of the daily work period (about 50%) which is spent sitting or standing while operating hand or power tools, heavy machinery, equipment, computer keyboard, and standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 25 lbs. daily, 25-60 lbs. occasionally, and 60-100 lbs. rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in office or warehouse environments with typical office or warehouse environment background noise, but is frequently subject to outside conditions (heat/snow/rain), fumes, chemicals, dust, and excess noise. Where appropriate, personal protective equipment will be issued and the employee will be trained in its proper application and use.

Additional Posting Information

This is a Full-time Classified, 40 hour per week (100%) position in the Facilities and Operations department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 6 on the 2019-20 Classified Salary Schedule.
