Position Summary:
The Graphic Artist is responsible for designing and preparing art work and print material.
This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Designs materials for university marketingWorks closely with clients to provide desired product while maintaining university standardsAreas served include recruitment, colleges and departments, marketing, fundraising, alumni, and athleticsJobs include–but are not limited to–magazines/viewbooks, brochures, signage, ads and specialty itemsFrequently organizes, schedules and supervises photo sessionsWorks with internal and external campus printers to provide art for productionReviews and approves proofs sent to printers and vendors for final productionAssists with visual elements to be used in television production and social mediaPerforms related responsibilities as required or assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of art and print layout and design techniques, computer software usage in graphic design and artwork, printing equipment
Ability to create design and layout using computer software upon request, prepare materials for printing, and produce camera-ready artwork and digital photography
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
Other:
Maintains supplies and computer software upgrades
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma
Two (2) years of specialized training in commercial art, graphic design, or related field
One (1) year of experience in advertising, printing, graphic design, or related field
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or parts of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee

Arkansas State is home to eight undergraduate colleges: Agriculture, Engineering and Computer Science; Education and Behavioral Science; Neil Griffin College of Business; Liberal Arts and Communication; Nursing and Health Professions; Sciences and Mathematics; and University College. While it does not award degrees, the Honors College is a component of the university’s academic structure. The Department of Military Science provides programs for students who aspire to be U.S. Army officers.

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
