Facilities Services. The Environmental & Sustainability Technician supports environmental compliance and sustainability within Georgia Southern’s commitment toward sustainability; ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
Essential Functions
•Responds in a timely manner to work order requests for pickups of hazardous waste, universal waste, or biomedical waste including vendor coordination.
•Properly labels and stages waste streams in hazardous waste building to ensure compliance with regulations.
•Performs weekly inspections in hazardous waste storage building and maintains facility with regards to regulatory requirements and housekeeping.
•Performs environmental compliance inspections and other duties as specified in Environmental Management System.
•Assists with data collection for Climate Action Plan or other environmental and sustainability reports.
•Maintains accurate and concise records.
•Follows all safety policies in performance of work and wears personal protective equipment when needed.

Preferred EducationAssociate’s Degree from accredited college in Environmental Sciences or related field
Preferred ExperienceSuccessfully completed 40 hours of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training; three or more years of relevant experience; experience in higher education, research laboratories, environmental consultation, or comparable institutional environment
