Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs/Provost, the Dean of the
School of Education (SOE) is the chief administrator of the School, providing overall leadership to drive
effective operations of the different academic disciplines. The primary responsibility of the Dean is to
work with key campus partners including faculty and staff, to achieve the mission of the college in the
areas of teaching, scholarship, student engagement and service. The Dean is to provide innovative and
results-based leadership to ensure that SOE remains firmly established among the providers of
education in the region. The Dean plays a major role in developing relations with businesses, the
community, government, accrediting agencies, and in seeking external support; as well as, fostering a
culture and climate that promotes excellence and collegiality within the School, across campus and
with external community partners.

Essential Functions
• In coordination with the Office of the Provost, establish and support regular reviews of the School’s BSEd program and its concentrations
• Collaborate with the Office of the Provost, Chairs of Faculty, Human Resources and other constituents on personnel functions including recruitment, appointments, renewals, promotions, evaluations, salary decisions, and oversight of the hiring process to ensure a positive on-boarding experience for new faculty
• Manage and monitor the School's budgets, including strategic budget development, allocation, administration, and oversight
• Oversee the curriculum including scheduling, staffing, academic program assessment and review, curriculum development, and academic planning
• Provide strategic direction to the Chairs of Faculty to identify and establish best ethical practices in faculty hiring and credentialing; ensuring adherence to College policies and procedures
• Foster teamwork and collaboration between faculty and staff within the School and throughout the College
• Represent GGC, as well as SOE, to internal and external constituencies
• Work with the College’s Upper Administration to further develop goals and community relations
• In partnership with the Center of Teaching Excellence and the Office of Research, Sponsored Programs, Accreditation and Certification Activities, engage the energy and talents of SOE faculty and staff in the pursuit of professional development, scholarship, and extramural research funding
• Oversee the completion of annual faculty and staff performance reviews and student course evaluations
• Encourage a focus of student success at the faculty level by ensuring effective advisement, mentorship, response to student academic concerns, seeking of resolution in a timely manner and regular assessments of all majors and programs of study
• Partner with the Office of Enrollment Management to support the recruitment and retention of students
• Ensure and demonstrate compliance with regional accreditation standards, national program-level
accreditation standards, and any appropriate state regulations.
• Hold regular School meetings and standard disciplinary meetings
• Perform other duties, as assigned by the Office of the Provost

Required Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or earned terminal degree in a related concentration/discipline
  • An academic record commensurate with the rank of full professor at GGC
  • A minimum of five years of higher education administrative experience at the associate dean or equivalent level
  • Demonstrated leadership skill, with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and
  • collaborative skills
  • Commitment to diversity, intercultural understanding, and professional development of faculty and staff
  • A commitment to and evidence of securing external support through grant, fundraising and development
  • Experience with National Accreditation and the standards identified by the State of Georgia
  • Experience in budget and financial management
  • Experience in faculty recruitment, supervision and evaluation
