Assistant Professor- Athletic Leadership
Location: Clemson University
The Clemson University College of Education seeks highly qualified candidates to fill a tenure track position in the Athletic Leadership program at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Athletic Leadership program at Clemson University is a highly student-centered online program that focuses on leadership and ethical development for coaches in educational settings. This program is committed to the development of the coaching profession with specific emphasis on the intercollegiate setting.
The nine-month (or 12 month) appointment will be effective for fall 2020. Athletic Leadership is an emerging new discipline in the College of Education. Applicants with a terminal degree, significant experience in collegiate coaching and/or administrative field, and strong history in research relevant to intercollegiate athletics will be considered. Interested candidates who are recently ABD are encouraged to apply. Clemson University is interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct research in Athletic Leadership
- Extension of graduate academic program into PhD concentration
- Teach courses in the Athletic Leadership master's program in online format
- Advise graduate degree students
- Extension of AL minor into major with teaching certification
- Direct and mentor student research by serving on research committees
- Take a lead role in service to the program/department, as well as service to the college and university
- Summer teaching is a possibility
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimal Qualifications:
- PhD or EdD in Higher Education Leadership, or related field
- Specific experience with Intercollegiate Student Athlete Development
- Significant experience with Intercollegiate Coaching and/or Intercollegiate Athletics Administration
- Evidence of and potential to develop a strong record of scholarly productivity in intercollegiate athletics and/or Higher Education Leadership
- Experience with or potential to seek external funding (i.e., participation in grant activities)
- Active participation and service in national, regional, or state professional organizations in the areas of education and intercollegiate athletics (NCAA, NASSH, AERA, ASHE, NAASM, etc.)
- Teaching experience at the graduate level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability and experience in teaching graduate courses across multiple platforms
- Research agenda focused on intercollegiate athletics
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience monitoring graduate students degree completion
- Positive Attitude and collegial demeanor
