The primary purpose of this position is to lend assistance to skilled trade and maintenance workers with the installation, maintenance and repair of machinery, electrical and/or electronic components found within Housing facilities.
Conditions of Employment:
1. To be classified in the student employment type or student worker category (STUWK), the employee must be enrolled in and actively attending classes (if classes are in session) at a University System of Georgia institution during the employment period.
2. Have a minimum semester and cumulative UGA grade point average of 2.0 at the time of application and maintain a minimum cumulative and semester UGA grade point average of 2.0 during the period of employment. If the minimum cumulative or semester UGA grade point average is not maintained, the office assistant may be granted one (1) academic term to return to the minimum standards. New hires may not begin their contract under probation due to failure to meet the minimum academic requirements.
3. In good standing with the Office of Student Conduct.
4. May not exceed 20 hours of work per week while classes are in session. This includes online training, staff meetings and one-on-ones.
5. May not exceed 6 consecutive hours of work.
6. Continued employment is based upon job performance, evaluation and enrollment in the University.Student employees are considered temporary employees. A temporary employee may be separated at any time for any reasons without notice and either the employer or the employee can end the employment relationship. 1.The maintenance assistant will independently perform intermediate level maintenance tasks.
2.Knowledge of standard concepts and practices of the maintenance field and be relied upon to plan and accomplish goals.
3.Knowledge of workplace rules and guidelines; stay in compliance with UGA policies and procedures.
4.Properly prioritize work load according to urgency.
5.Communicate in a professional and consistent manner with a variety of individuals such as building service workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other maintenance workers.
Position Responsibilities:
1.Transfer tools, parts, equipment and supplies to and from work stations and other areas. 25%

2.Bend at the waist and the knees.
3.Work with arms and hands overhead for extended periods of time.

6.Crawl to complete various tasks.
7.May occasionally perform work related duties outdoors, in hot or cold weather conditions.
8.Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.
