Departmental Overview

University Health Services (UHS) is looking for a licensed psychologist to work with a team of talented professionals in their Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) unit, and who share a passion for providing exceptional and comprehensive psychological and counseling services to university students. CAPS is a highly utilized, comprehensive, student counseling service that assists students with a wide range of concerns, including academic success, life management, career and life planning, crisis management, and emotional and psychiatric illness. Performing under the general supervision of the Director of CAPS, CAPS staff provides a variety of services for students including career assessment and counseling, brief psychotherapy, crisis assessment and intervention, couples counseling, group counseling, and case management for complex medical and psychiatric illnesses.

Counseling staff also offer psycho-educational programs to students and provide consultation to faculty and staff regarding student concerns. Counselors are a multicultural group of social workers and clinical and counseling psychologists. CAPS also has an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited pre-doctoral internship training program. UHS, located at the Tang Center, serves the University of California, Berkeley campus by providing fully accredited primary and urgent medical care, sports medicine, mental health, innovative health promotion and health insurance services to students, as well as a variety of faculty and staff health programs and services. Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the CAPS Interim Clinical Director, the Per Diem Clinical Social Worker provides mental health care, case management and support, in collaboration with UHS psychiatrists and CAPS psychologists and other social workers. Most services will be provided in the CAPS unit at UHS.

Under general supervision, performs assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and case management of cases with a broad range of presenting issues and complexity including high risk concerns. Provides crisis assessment and intervention for students and consultation to campus faculty and staff. Participates in outreach activities and presentation of psychoeducational workshops for students

Responsible for projects regarding the development and coordination of campus and community resources and referrals particularly for underrepresented groups including but not limited to Muslim, South Asian, and African-American student populations.

Functions as a consultant to CAPS and other UHS staff with expertise in campus and community resources.

Participates in the training and supervision of Post-MSW Fellows, Doctoral Psychology Interns, and Post-Doctoral Fellows.

Required Qualifications

Masters in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling.

Current CA state license (LCSW or MFT) or ability to obtain CA license by position start date.

Advanced individual and group intervention skills including assessment, psychotherapy, and case management.

Experience working with and commitment to addressing the needs of multicultural and marginalized populations.

Ability to work with high risk populations including severe and complex mental health concerns.

Working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issues including dual diagnoses.

Experience and interest in developing community resources and referrals.

Effective verbal and presentation skills, computer literacy, supervision skills.

Working knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.

Expertise working in a collaborative manner with diverse client groups, medical and mental health staff, and campus and community partners.

Effective skills in communication, coordination and consultation.

Preferred Qualifications

At least 3 years post-licensure.

Experience working with multicultural and marginalized college student populations in university counseling.

Working knowledge of electronic health records.
