Position Description:
The Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA was established as an Organized Research Unit (ORU), with the mission to develop and strengthen African American Studies at UCLA. The Center supports research that (1) expands the knowledge of the history, lifestyles, and sociocultural systems of people of African descent and (2) investigates problems that have bearing on the psychological, social, and economic well being of persons of African descent. Research sponsored and conducted by the Bunche Center is multidisciplinary in scope and spans the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and several professional schools. Million Dollar Hoods (MDH) is the signature research project of the Bunche Center under the direction of the Director. The mission of MDH is to document and map the human and fiscal costs of incarceration.

The Center is seeking a Data Analyst with strong teaching, mentoring, data management and programming skills to support the Million Dollar Hoods Project. The analyst will work on a team to analyze law enforcement data in collaboration with community organizations. The individual hired will also be expected to help develop data management and analysis processes, build databases, conceive of new ways to communicate data findings through visualization and other methods as well as provide instruction on data analysis techniques and software to college students and community members

This position offers the opportunity to work on research that directly impacts communities affected by policing and incarceration. The Data Analyst will contribute to a growing and dynamic team of scholars and community advocates. The successful candidate will have experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis in real-world settings and familiarity with a variety of data analysis software They should have strong writing skills and the ability to translate data findings to a broad audience. The person hired should also enjoy working in and with groups with diverse skill sets to accomplish a common goal. This position requires an individual who is able to run multiple projects concurrently and involves may be required to manage a high volume of regular communication with multiple project stakeholders.
