Job Description:

Associate Director of the Research & Analysis Unit which serves as the state’s Statistical Analysis Center; develops the research agenda for the Unit; formulates and implements policies and procedures for the Unit; oversees Unit budget and grant applications and awards; determines staffing needs to achieve program objectives; leads Unit and manager staff meetings; manages Unit training needs and standards; ensures Unit compliance of research activities with Institutional Review Board (IRB), state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Oversees Unit research and publications; employs strategic research and evaluation priorities and plans for the Unit; reviews staff research study project proposals, IRB applications, methodologies, and research publication drafts including articles, reports, manuscripts, and web content; offers methodological and advanced statistical support and guidance; may serve as principal investigator on research in areas of expertise. Serves as a liaison with policy-making officials within state, federal and local government, private agencies and organizations, as well as external stakeholders for collaboration, information exchange, and the marketing and promotion of the agency and its work. Conducts research presentations to all levels of local, state, and federal policy-making officials; state and local criminal justice and victim service practitioners; and associations, boards, and universities. Serves on entities such as boards, commissions, task forces, councils, and working groups to provide research support and expertise. Holds meetings with stakeholders. Supervises management staff, assigns work, approves time off; provides guidance and training; gives oral reprimands; effectively recommends grievance resolutions; completes and signs performance evaluations; establishes annual goals and objectives; counsels staff on problems with productivity, quality of work and conduct; determines staffing needs to achieve program objectives. Acts as a liaison to internal Authority Units; promotes evidence-based and promising practices agency-wide; reviews Federal State and Grants Unit notifications of funding opportunities; presents quarterly research updates and presentations to Authority board; attends executive staff meetings as a representative of the Unit; works with Fiscal Unit to manage grant awards and budgets; collaborates with Office of the General Council for executing research funding contracts, intergovernmental agreements, and data sharing agreements. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a master’s degree, PhD preferred, in areas such as criminal justice, criminology, sociology, psychology, political science, or public administration. Requires a minimum of four years management expereience; ability to supervise and develop staff; manage large team research projects; extensive knowledge of criminal justice system and evidence-based practices, programs, and policies; experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis; thorough knowledge of various criminal justice data sets, statistical analyses, and statistical software; prior roles as principal investigator of large-scale research studies and publications in academic journals and/or technical reports; ability to write and edit research publications and manage research grant applications and awards; excellent communication, interpersonal skills and character judgment; strong public speaking skills; ability to effectively present research to large state and national audiences; ability to wok independently; abillity to work collaboratively as part of a larger team; ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of work quality; excellent organizational and leadership skills; demonstrated leadership abilities, including developing strategic plans as a part of a vision and involving others in the execution.

Salary depends on qualifications.
