Requirements

The Sponsored Projects Financial Operations department (“SPFO”) is responsible for monitoring and executing the post-award administration of sponsored activity for the University.

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Sponsored Projects Financial Operations (SPFO), the Associate Director for Sponsored Projects Cost Analysis and Compliance supports the tactical, strategic and operational objectives of Financial Affairs with regard to externally funded projects and directs the day-to-day operations and resources of the Cost Analysis and Compliance team under SPFO.

The focus of the Associate Director position is to provide expert and efficient guidance with regard to compliance operations of sponsored projects to university management, the faculty, the Principal Investigators, campus finance staff and SPFO staff to ensure that operational responsibilities are fulfilled and customer service goals are reached. Serving as a resource to the University research community, the Associate Director coordinates the development and maintenance of the necessary policies and procedures related to sponsored projects, provides necessary training, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures and applicable Federal regulations. The Associate Director coordinates and oversees the University's response to all external audits related to sponsored projects, including the annual Uniform Guidance Audit and any Federal or private sponsor audits. The Associate Director is responsible for the preparation and submission of the University's fringe benefit rate proposal as well as the preparation and submission of the University's Facilities &Administrative rate proposal and on-going maintenance of the costing model that supports the preparation.

The Associate Director also works on special projects as assigned, such as strategic training plan, trend analysis, risk based audits of sub-awardee's sponsored transactions, and Financial Affair/SPFO website updates.

This position will have a direct report under its supervision.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required; MBA or any Master program in policies making and internal business preferred.
  • 8 years in positions dedicated to finance or accounting, with 3 or more years' experience in Uniform Guidance audit and/or federal awards compliance review
  • Previous work in university or hospital setting with a medical research facility is required
  • Three to five years of accounting and analysis experience, managing cost accounting or sponsored accounting is preferred.
  • Proven experience with managing staff.
  • Knowledge of complex accounting systems; working experience with WorkDay preferred.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:
  • Strong auditing, accounting, and analytical skills; close attention to details
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in computerized financial software
  • Demonstrated understanding of research administration processes
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance [2 CFR 200] and its predecessors OMB Circulars A-110, A-21, A-133, A-122; FAR, PHS Guidelines, DS2 regulations, private agency guidelines, costing principles, and University procedures.

Other Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituents.
  • Proficiency in end user applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
