The Division of Hematology/ Oncology is within the department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest clinical departments within the East Carolina University School of Medicine. The mission of the Department is to provide quality patient care, to teach medical students and residents, and to do research. Additionally, it is the mission of the division to provide model comprehensive hematology and oncology consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for providers in the region. The achievement of this mission requires a full staff commitment to the goals and operations of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Department of Pediatrics, the East Carolina University School of Medicine, and East Carolina University. The division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology consists of 1 Business Services Coordinator, 4 Pediatric Hematologists, 1 Advanced Care Practitioner, 3 outpatient Nurse Specialists,1 inpatient Nurse Specialist (Vidant employee, 1 Nurse Assistant, 1 outpatient Social Work Practitioner, 1 inpatient Social Worker (Vidant employee), 2 Child life Specialists, 5 Social Clinical Research Specialists, 1 Oncology Pharmacist (Vidant employee), 1 Administrative Support Assistant, and 2 Patient Access Services staff.

Job Duties

The Department of Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology at the Brody School of Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to provide patient care for patients in clinic, inpatient, outpatient and day hospital settings. In addition the successful candidate has to play an important role in providing education to other staff at the hospital and university, referring practitioners, patients and their families and to other community members relevant to the care of individuals with pediatric hematologic and oncologic conditions. Membership and participation in professional organizations is essential to remain current in the field. Research responsibilities include a role in all aspects of the research process including organizing, implementing, tracking, and presenting research activities in the division of pediatric hematology and oncology.

CLINICAL SUPPORT POSITION – NOT SUBJECT TO STATE HUMAN RESOURCES ACT.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience

Graduation from a physician assistant program approved by the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners and “approved to practice medical acts” based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or licensed as a registered nurse by the Board of Nursing and graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Subcommittee, and two years of experience in the specialty area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation
