General Description / Primary Purpose

The Admissions Coordinator, under the direction of a Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.

Essential Duties

Job Function

Serves as the contact and resource person for postsecondary advising colleagues looking to properly advise prospective transfer students. Convenes groups and facilitates trainings/workshops on best practices related to transfer student services with an emphasis on adult learning. Cultivates relationships with non-profit and community-based service organizations to identify services for special populations of transfer students. Cultivates relationships with on-campus service providers to ensure transfer students are immediately and purposefully connected to the campus, to other transfer students as a learning community and to faculty/staff mentors. Cultivates relationships with career services to stay current on trends related to the connection between programs of study and career opportunities. Also collaborates to provide extensive counseling for students on career options related to academic areas of interest. Work closely with admissions and financial aid staff to advise prospective transfer students (e.g., evaluates transcripts; develop plans of study, etc.). Establish and maintain relationships with assigned department chair/program directors to understand and clarify departmental expectations. Maintain current knowledge of all the degree and certificate programs.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Faculty Position Required QualificationsDepartmental Requirements

Preference shown to those who meet the required qualifications and also possess the follwoing:
Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of instructional experience. Experience supporting college students with an emphasis on transfer/non-traditional student populations. Demonstrated effectiveness in working with enrollment services staff members, faculty members and academic advisors. Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to public service, social justice, and diversity; solid understanding of and appreciation for cultural, ethnic and individual differences. Nights and weekends are required for job duties and events.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. As such, any person in this position must report to the University Police Department a crime or an incident that might be a crime that he/she becomes aware of. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make the holder of this position someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSA’s responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session. The holder of this position is designated as a “Responsible Employee” pursuant to their role under Title IX. Therefore, the incumbent must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse by or against any student, employee, contractor, or visitor to the University’s Title IX Administrator or any divisional Title IX Coordinator.

Staff members in this position may not participate in the educational benefit during the fall semester because it is a peak recruitment season (zero courses); they may take one course during the spring semester and two courses in the summer semester.

Required Licensure or Certification

A valid Florida state drivers license is required.
