This includes building support through community engagement and alumni outreach efforts, attendance at key community events, representation on important community initiatives and the creation of partnerships supporting the university's mission.


Nature of WorkThe Associate Director of Philanthropic Engagement will be responsible for the overall planning, implementation, execution and coordination of individual giving strategy for the UCCS Ent Center for the Arts (Ent Center). The Ent Center for the Arts supports arts, culture, and community for UCCS and the Pikes Peak region. Its professional arts programs are the Artist Series, UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art, and Theatreworks. The Ent Center for the Arts is a 92,000 square-foot arts complex opened in 2018 on the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus.

 This position will be responsible for development and donor relations activities that include individual giving, grants, giving societies, philanthropically-related special events and stewardship.  Strong collaborative skills and a team-focused approach is crucial in this role, which will work with multiple parties within the Advancement and Ent Center for the Arts teams. The constituent in this position will achieve core metric goals including donor engagement activities and support raised.  The Associate Director of Philanthropic Engagement will plan and carry out the institution's program of soliciting annual and leadership gifts with limited focus on key grant and major gift opportunities.  A minimum of 4 years fundraising experience, with key experience in annual fund development or similar experience and transferable skills from private industry is required. This position will focus on building a strong foundation of annual support by growing the number and consistency of individual donors to the Ent Center.   Donor relationships will be successfully cultivated and sustained though an intentional effort to increase the donor relationship with the unit and institution. This role will support the operation and administration of these activities to ensure proper alignment with goals of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), the Advancement Division, and the University of Colorado Foundation; the incumbent work in partnership with the Directors of the Artist Series, TheatreWorks, GOCA, and the Ent Center to support the delivery of quality philanthropic programs. 

 Relationships
  • Position liaisons and coordinates with University Advancement, Executive Director of the Ent Center, the three Artistic Directors of the Ent Center programs, the Ent Center Patron Services and the CU Foundation.
  • Position liaisons with the various Advisory Boards of the UCCS Ent Center for the Arts.
  • Position works closely and collaborates with the Ent Center Marketing Manager, the Director of University Marketing, and the Director of Auxiliary Marketing and the annual fund teams at UCCS and with the CU system.

  •  Examples of Work Performed

    • Build and oversee the implementation of an aspirational, achievable comprehensive development strategy and annual plan; work with Ent Center Program Directors to create and achieve fundraising goals.

    • Strengthen and diversify the fundraising program by expanding the Ent Center for the Arts donor bases with special focus on building annual supporters and leadership level donors.

    • Portfolio Management:  Manages portfolio consisting of a minimum of 70 prospects, which will need to be identified/developed by the incumbent. Goals relating to personal contacts, number of proposed gifts, grants, and prospect identification to be set with and approved by management. 

    • Ability to identify funding opportunities through strong research skills with a focus on funders interested in the arts and community collaborations.

    • Successfully solicits for and receives funding through personal donor solicitation, proposal creation and grant writing efforts.

    • Partners with the Ent Center for the Arts team to develop and execute Ent Center for the Arts annual contributed fundraising strategies. 

    • Focus on building and sustaining robust annual support through the Ent Center for the Arts annual fund and philanthropic events.  Collaborates with colleagues in University Advancement on major gifts and grants.

    • Working closely with UCCS Advancement, the Executive Director of the Ent Center, and the Artistic Directors, to maintain donor relationships and promote stewardship across all giving groups, including corporate, foundation and individual donors and prospects to create a positive environment for solicitations.

    • Develop, create and track proposals and reports for foundation and corporate sponsorships.  Coordinate these activities with appropriate colleagues and resource groups.

    • In partnership with UCCS Advancement and Ent Center staff, establish donor recognition policies and processes and actively ensure appropriate donor recognition and distribution of benefits.

    • Conduct in-person meetings with donors and prospects for purposes of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

    • In partnership with UCCS Advancement and the CU System annual fund teams, oversee and support the creation of the development calendars to ensure deadlines are met.

    • Procurement of materials and services as needed.
    • Work with the Ent Center team and the Advisory Boards to develop short-term and long-term fundraising goals ensuring that internal policies and procedures are in alignment with University policies and procedures.

    • Work closely with supervised staff to ensure they are provided with appropriate support systems and responsive, quality service to their areas.

    • Ensure that grants are created, coordinated, and stewarded in partnership with the program areas and with the UCCS Advancement team.

    • Perform budget analysis, preparation, and management.

    • Utilizes donor management systems on a regular basis to honor institutional relationship policies and donor strategy.

    • Other related duties as assigned.
     Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated experience in the cultivation, solicitation of donors and success in securing donations from individuals at annual and leadership giving levels.

    • Solid ability to conduct cold-calls resulting in future support for the institution.

    • Solid ability to contribute to a team-focused development group.

    • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, and ability to develop and maintain interpersonal relationships.

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

    • Solid ability to analyze information / situations and solve problems.

    • Solid ability to organize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; must have ability to work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities.

    • Demonstrated experience in project management.
    • Knowledge of development best practices and techniques appropriate for arts organizations.

    • Demonstrated capability in grant opportunity identification and grant writing and/or grant coordination for nonprofit organizations.

    • Professionalism, maturity, and an ability to handle sensitive information discretely and maintain confidentiality.

    • Knowledge of business and financial management.
    • Experience in staff, volunteer, and vendor management.

    • Ability to work evenings and weekend hours as needed.

    • Computer literacy, advanced MS Office skills

    Salary Range: $61,500 - $70,000

    This position has beendetermined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair LaborStandards Act (FLSA).

    QualificationsMinimumRequirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited collegeor university.
    • 4 years of experience in fundraising in a development role or similar experience and transferable skills from private industry is required.
     PreferredQualifications

    • 2+ years experience executing annual supportstrategies.
    • Experience with arts organization or ademonstrated passion or affinity for the arts.
    • Experience developing and managing budgets andhiring, training, developing, and supervising personnel.
    • Strong leadership skills; excellent analyticalskills; the ability to collaborate effectively with others; and the ability tobuild and motivate employees.
    • Ability to manage multiple competing projects.Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple and varied tasksindependently, while also working collaboratively.
    • Demonstrated experience in collecting andanalyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
    • Experience working with Tessitura and/or Advance.
