Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

Provides academic instruction on assigned Psychology classes and provides advising and academic support to students in the department. Will also perform faculty duties associated with service to the department and college.

Essential Duties Summary:

Teaches classes in the Department of Psychology. Provides academic advising for students in the department. Provides academic support to students in the form of assessment, evaluation, and mentoring. Serves on college/school/ and university committees as required. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Hiring Range:

Commensurate with experience.


Requires a Master’s degree (M.A. or M.S.) from an accredited college or university.

Required Licensing/Certification:

LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Successful candidate will be required to contribute in teaching, and service at a level necessary to help the department function effectively. Successful candidate should demonstrate commitment to mentoring students. Must have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Must be able to work with a diverse student and faculty population. Must be able to use personal computers, Microsoft Office software and familiarity with various statistical packages commonly used in the social and behavioral sciences.

Work Experience:

Requires a minimum of three years of experience (five years preferable) as an instructor in a psychology program in a four-year college or university.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities:

Some leadership and supervisory responsibility.

Work Complexity/Budget Authority:

Work requires the direct application of a variety of procedures, policies and/or precedents. No responsibility for budget and expenditure authority.

Independent Judgment/Decision Making/Problem Solving Skills:

Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies and practices. Refers unusual problems to supervisor.

Personal/Organizational Contacts:

Regular contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to explain, clarify or interpret information. May handle confidential and some complex matters.

Customer Service Relationships:

Requires interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that student, university, and community requests or needs are met. Acknowledges and clarifies inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.

Working/Environmental Conditions:

Working conditions require following basic safety precautions. Physical demands include moderate physical activity that includes prolonged standing and/or walking, handling moderate weight objects and/or using or carrying equipment. Work may require routine travel.
