St. Charles Community College is located just west of St. Louis, nestled in the heart of growing St. Charles County. Established in 1986, SCC is a public, comprehensive two-year community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC also provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.

We are seeking a full-time AEL Instructor who will teach at the Northeast Correctional Center (NECC) in Bowling Green, Missouri. The candidate will instruct Adult Education & Literacy students in basic reading, math, and writing skills to attain personal goals; instruct English as a Second Language students in conversational reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Instructs adult secondary education students in basic reading, math, and writing skills to attain personal goals. Classes are directed by individualized student needs. Students work in a self-directed mode using small and large group instruction as appropriate.Conducts assessment of all students to determine individual needs.Maintains individual student folders containing all pertinent information for each student, including, at the least: enrollment information; test levels, dates, and scores; progress sheet; individual learning plan. Include other information as appropriate for the individual student.Designs and maintains individual learning plans to document each student's needs and progress.Performs periodic assessment of each student's progress and record the results appropriately.Maintains records of daily attendance. Participates in professional development activities to maintain Missouri AEL certification; pursue individual educational and professional development.Greets students as they enter the center and determine status and testing requirements.Provides directions and answers questions concerning assessment testing. Operates computers to open center, starts tests and close center.Utilizes computers to generate daily test scores and monthly locator.Monitors students taking tests to ensure appropriate test taking behaviors.Maintains inventory of supplies.Prepares score reports.Administers other tests as needed following prescribed procedures. Manages classroom/offenders in the corrections environment.

    The employee must pass a pre-employment drug screening conducted by the Department of Corrections and employees will be required to submit to and pass random drug screenings conducted by the department.The employee must comply with Department of Corrections training requirements, which include a minimum of basic training, annual core training, and all other trainings assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university. AEL certification, or a willingness to obtain AEL certification, is required. Previous experience teaching adults is preferred.
